Himachal is another hill state of India in the Western Himalayas, of the Northern India, bordered by Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Cahndigarh, Haryana, Uttarakhand and by the Tibet Autonomous Region. This is a place brimming with natural beauty. With number of hill stations and temples, the sight is just eye soothing and mind refreshing. Tourism is one of the three important sectors that plays vital role in contributing to the economy of the state. The other two being Hydroelectric power projects and agriculture. The state was ranked the second-least corrupt state in the country, after Kerala according to the 2005 Transparency International survey. Shimla is the most sorted spot of all so the government has also aided its tourism department by banning the use of plastic bags in the area, reducing litter in and around, and controlling use of tobacco products aiming to improve people's health. It also takes measures with the view of protecting and preserving the nature.

History

The history dates back to Indus valley civilization. There were tribes like the Koili, Hali, Dagi, Dhaugri, Dasa, Khasa, Kinnar, and Kirat who inhabited the place since the prehistoric era. On 15 April 1948 after independence, organization of the Chief Commissioner's Province of H.P. resulted. 28 petty princely states were integrated including feudal princes and zaildars, which came to be known as the Simla Hills States and four Punjab southern hill states under the Himachal Pradesh. In 1 April 1954 the State of Bilaspur was merged into Himachal Pradesh by the Himachal Pradesh and Bilaspur Act, 1954. Then on 26 January 1950, the state became a part C state with the implementation of the Constitution of India. The Lieutenant Governor was also appointed. In 1952 the Legislative Assembly was elected and on 1 November 1956, Himachal Pradesh became a union territory On 18 December 1970, Parliament, passed the State of Himachal Pradesh Act and on 25 January 1971 the new state came into existence claiming to be the 18th state of the Indian Union.

Himachal Pradesh is one of the few states that remained untouched by the customs of the rest of the world mainly because of its tough location. But with the advancement of the technology there has been a huge change in the state, in a positive way. Himachal is a multicultural and multilingual state with multi religions followed by the inhabitants but Hinduism tops. The commonly used language is Hindi and Pahari. More than 90% of the population here lives in rural areas but all the houses are designed according to the modern times like the presence of toilet and bathrooms in the house. Typical houses of Himachal are constructed of clay bricks and the roofs of slate. The houses in the hilly areas differ though. They are usually made up of stones with roof of timber. The tribals usually have two storied houses where the cattle shed normally occupy the ground floor. Labourers have thatched roofs house. The roads are in good condition for vehicles to move. Public health centers are available and now it is equipped with high-speed broadband as well. The first thing that will catch your eyes is their colorful dresses their traditional dress include dhoti, kurta, coat, waistcoat, turban and a hand towel. The Rajput males wear tight fitting churidar pyjamas, a long coat and a starched turban and the female wear kurtas, salwars, long skirts, embroidered tops and red head scarves. Even more colorful is their culture and tradition which you will get to unfold as you dig deeper into the state. You will get plenty of information from the natives here as well as they are a bunch of warm and friendly people who willingly will offer you help and provide you with your requirements. They also stand out in art and craft. Carpets, leather works, shawls, paintings, metal ware, woodwork and paintings are some areas where they excel. During festivals and other occasions there is a lot of music and dance. Their cuisine resembles that of the Northern India.
